Light is Divided from Darkness
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.” -Genesis 1:3-4
From the very beginning of creation, we see a principle set down by God: that light is good, and that it is to be separated from darkness. And in this physical universe, there are many useful applications for our spiritual well-being as well.
Just as light is good, and ought to be divided from the darkness, so too we, as Christians—those who have the glorious light of Christ’s gospel shining in their hearts—ought to be separate from the works or darkness.
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” -Ephesians 5:11
And taking this one step further, the Bible teaches that we ought not to be in close fellowship with unbelievers:
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” -2 Corinthians 6:14
