The Filthiness of Darkness

September 10, 2009

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.” -Ephesians 5:11-12

Here we see from the apostle Paul what ought to be every Christian’s moral standard regarding purity. It should be understood that we are to refrain from committing immorality, but the Bible goes a step further and says that we are to:

1) Have no fellowship with those that practice wickedness.

2) Do not even speak of the acts that others commit in the darkness.

A higher standard

The Scripture has set the bar very high for Christian living and purity: we are not even so much as to speak of the things that are done in darkness! It’s not enough to simply refrain from them ourselves, but the apostle Paul says that it is a shame to even mention such acts by name or describe them.

What acts am I referring to?

I won’t mention them.
