The Thing that Makes Heaven, Heaven

January 7, 2010

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” -Matthew 7:21

It is perhaps interesting to note that the thing that makes heaven the place it is is not the streets of gold, or the harps, or the angels flying around; the thing that makes heaven heaven is God.

And because God dwells in heaven, those that inhabit His heaven with Him do His will.

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” -Matthew 6:10

We see in the Lord’s prayer that not only should we desire to have God’s will be done on earth, but we acknowledge that God’s will is done in heaven. God says “go,” and the one goes. He says “come,” and another comes. What He says is obeyed.

Do we live our life as a citizen of heaven? Do we live to make God’s will “done” on this earth? If not, then we ought to examine our own hearts, and see if we are truly children of the Heavenly Father, or whether we are still sons of our old father, the Devil.

“Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” -John 8:42-44
