Wisdom: Spiritual Engineers
“And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.” -Exodus 31:3-5
Here we see a little glimpse into the effects and characteristics of wisdom. Basically, God had put His Spirit into a man (Bezaleel) which enabled him to build all of the demanding and specific objects that God had described to Moses. God had just told Moses to build the tabernacle, and along with it the ark of the covenant, an altar, and other miscellaneous things for God’s ministry.
And a lot of them were hard to build. They required being overlaid with gold, or carved pieces, or brass/metalworking, or other techniques that probably weren’t common around 1400 BC. In a nutshell, God enabled certain men to figure out and understand things that were somewhat mysterious.
How does this thing work?
Have you ever looked at a gadget or a new invention and wondered: how does that thing work? Well, that’s what wisdom is spiritually. When God gives someone a spirit of wisdom, He is enabling them to look inside of a matter, and understand the mechanics of how it works.
Situations are rarely cut-and-dried. Things get sticky, and complicated, and in situations like these (and there seem to be quite a few of them in everyday life) we need wisdom. We need the ability to cut through the smoke and mirrors and simply see things as they really are.
Don’t have wisdom?
Then ask.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” -James 1:5
But one thing to realize, is that the Lord will not hold a man guitless who takes His name in vain. You must want wisdom. You must see your need for wisdom. You have to really want it, and then ask God to open your eyes.
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” -Matthew 5:6
